Dia de Gracias.

Thanksgiving Day.

There's so much not to be grateful for:
  • A country, which for decades embraced slavery, then turns around and elects a black President.
  • A government that can experience monumental change without a military coup or bloodshed.
  • A culturally rich stew of every type and race and creed of people living together, usually in peace.
  • Churches where everybody thinks they're going to heaven without killing others who think another way.
  • Schools and colleges and universities by the score, most made affordable to anyone and everyone.
  • Grocery stores where affordable food of every type and variety can be found in abundance.
  • Light that comes on in the dark at the flip of switch.
  • A life lived longer without polio and malaria and plague.
  • A roof over your head, a pillow on your bed.
  • A refrigerator/freezer that keeps your burgers and your butter and your bread.
  • A car or two or three, to get you from here to wherever you want to go.
  • Gas under five dollars a gallon.
  • Gallons and gallons and gallons of cheap, clean water.
  • Friends and family who can come visit without having to stop at any state line.
  • Friends and family who live how and where they want to.
  • Daughters and sons who love you, despite you.
  • Grandchildren who can't wait to journey over the river and through the woods.
  • A wife or a husband who sticks it out.
  • Every morning, a Sun that comes up, no matter what comes up.
  • Another day.
  • Any way you want it.

Dia de Gracias.

Thanksgiving Day.

I think the only thing I'm really not grateful for is being so damned spoiled I forget what I ought to be grateful for.

Have a wonder-filled Thanksgiving!
