One can deal with ignorance all day long. It's why we have teachers.
One can deal with arrogance all day long. It's what patience is all about.
But nobody likes to deal with arrogant-ignorance and nobody likes to deal with ignorant-arrogance; They both suck.
One of my developer clients made sure everybody knew she knew everything. Nobody could tell her anything about anything because she knew everything about everything. She knew exactly what she wanted and what she wanted, she would get. Period. End of story.
I don't fire many clients. I fired this one because
1) She made everybody in the office sick with worry for a day before she showed up for a meeting and for at least two days after.
2) What she wanted was totally and completely ignorant. Period. End of story.
Except it wasn't' the end of the story. She hired four more architects and paid several hundred thousand dollars more to get what she wanted.
When the arrogant think themselves above learning and the ignorant emerge too stupid to know they don't have the right to be arrogant, that's when things become downright comical. That's when one might gain clear insight into the insane world we find ourselves in.
There have been times I have been arrogant. (To anyone offended, please, take no offence. None intended.)
There have been more times I openly admit to ignorance.
Growing a business or a relationship requires at least this one thing: Don't mix what you think you know with what you know you know.
Don't be arrogantly ignorant. Don't be ignorantly arrogant.
Period. End of Story.
