Monday with Marley
|
|
December 8, 2008 ![]() Weird. When I came in this morning and sat down at my computer to discover what this Monday With Marley would be, I kept seeing an 8-ball. Not the kind of 8-Ball you find in the corner pocket but the old, black, plastic toy that answered any question you might have, like an Quija Board, only round. Holding the polished plastic orb in both hands, you would ask the Magic 8-Ball any question and it would answer: "As I see it, yes", "Ask again later", Better not tell you now", "Cannot predict now", "Concentrate and ask again", "Don't count on it", "It is certain", "It is decidedly so", "Most likely", "My reply is no", "My sources say no", "Outlook good", "Outlook not so good", "Reply hazy, try again", "Signs point to yes", "Very doubtful", "Without a doubt", "Yes", "Yes, definitely" and "You may rely on it". Inside the ball, a twenty sided tetrahedral floated in a black soup. When rotated, the ball would float up against the glass "eye", revealing the answer to the secret question asked, "does she really like me?" "Outlook not so good!" Ten of the possible answers were affirmations, five were negations and five were non-committal responses. This means that out of twenty potential answers, you had a fifty percent chance to get what you wanted. You had a twenty-five percent chance to be encouraged to keep trying until you got what you wanted and finally, you had a twenty-five percent chance to be told "No", so you could shake the ball again, defiantly, until you got what you wanted. Somebody became very rich by creating a toy that toyed with your brain. Every one of those twenty phrases is in your head and every question you've ever had tumbles through your own, personal tetrahedral of inherited and learned response code. Try shaking your head, hard! See through your inner eye into that soup of God given wisdom and know that you know what it is you want to know, already. Become rich by knowing what's in your brain! If you'll look through that secret inner eye, I bet, you'll perceive that this turbulent and difficult time in the world as an incredible opportunity for change, for perfectly good change. See! See yourself changing, being the person you know you are, doing the things you know you should be doing, living the way you always wanted to live. It's time to quit waiting for something else, something outside you, to whisper "You may rely on it". Join us this Friday. We're going to be hanging around the Wizard Academy Campus and we're going to play a big game of ballsy billiards. We're going to drop that good old 8-Ball right in the corner pocket where it belongs. "You may rely on it".
