Porter is principal architect and owner of Living Architecture &
Construction Management, Inc.
Named in 2005 as one of the Top 10 green architects in North
America by Natural Home & Garden magazine, Porter
is committed to creating architecture and communities with a conscience and
a soul. His projects include the renowned One World Theatre in Austin and
the Y Bar and Grill at Oak Hill.
Porter began his architectural career in 1980 in an agency in Arizona, leading
various architectural and interior design ventures, but his career and life
profoundly changed when he accepted the role of tribal architect to the Navajo
Nation.
While serving the Native American tribe, Porter developed a deep respect
for the Navajo principals of living with nature that forever changed the
way he approached architecture.
Today, Porter's passion for creating synergy between nature and the built
environment can be seen at every stage in the development process - from
conceptualization to design to construction.
One of Porter's current projects is a 120-acre green resort community in
the Texas Hill Country called CastleRock Texas, featuring condominiums, a hotel,
a bed and breakfast, garden homes, a spa, a recording studio, art
galleries, a farmers market, retail shops and eateries.
Porter's work has been featured in Progressive Architecture,
Architecture Habitare, Better Homes and Gardens, Phoenix Home and Garden,
Interiors, Vogue, and on Good Morning America and PBS.
